Read below to learn about just a few pieces of our equipment and some therapeutic uses behind each one. Depending on your child's goals and interests, your highly trained therapist will guide them to the piece of equipment that is the perfect fit!
Our crash pads are a safe and effective landing zone for kids who crave sensory input. Crash pads allow children to gain proprioceptive input through activities such as squishing, jumping, and crashing. Children also receive tactile and vestibular input through rolling and more! This is a child favorite and a very versatile therapy tool. Having a regulated body means you are ready to focus, engage, attend, learn, and connect!
Crash pads increase body awareness, proprioceptive input, improve gross motor skills, increase coordination (which reflects in fine motor skills,) manage stress levels, reach sensory regulation, and much more!
The vestibular system builds awareness to where the body is in space. Vestibular input allows us to move our body in a coordinated manner so that we are able to participate in functional tasks. Stimulating the vestibular system has been proven to show many benefits such as decreased self-stimulation, decreased hypersensitivity, increased postural security, increased concentration and attentiveness, calming effects, increased body awareness, and much more! Problems associated with vestibular processing can make many aspects of everyday life challenging. Vestibular dysfunction not only affects us physically but also psychologically.
Our specialized sensory space hosts a variety of swings! Simply, swinging is fun, pleasurable, and regulating. Swinging can have an alerting or calming effect on our nervous system and can also increase muscle tone, balance, motor planning, and coordination.
"Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain- unless it is done through play, in which case, it takes between 10-20 repetitions." -Dr. Karyn Purvis
